Day 1

1) Start the day at Schönbrunn Palace

Summer residence of the most powerful and longest ruling royal family of Austria - the Hapsburg’s. Extremely luxurious and royal decor. Humongous building complex with 1,441 rooms, of which 45 rooms are open to the public. Complex also houses the Great Parterre, Neptune’s Fountain, Palm House and the zoo.

2) Visit the Schönbrunn Zoo

World’s oldest zoo - often considered as the best zoo to visit in Europe. 700 species of exotic animals, birds and insects - elephants, cheetahs, leopards, penguins, flamingos, crocodiles, polar bears, tigers, rhinos, giraffes and zebras to name a few! Star attraction: Giant Pandas.

3) Grab late lunch at Naschmarkt
🕕 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm (1.5 hrs)
Historic 16th-century food market in the city - unique bite-sized items like sardine olive sticks, cheese wrapped bacon, grilled zucchini, cheese-stuffed jalapenos and whatnot! A street filled with permanent and temporary eateries selling traditional and non-traditional food and beverages.

4) Next stop : Museum of Illusions
🕕 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm (1.5 hrs)
An interactive museum filled with uncanny and mind-boggling gravity-defying illusions, puzzles, and mirrors. 70 exhibition pieces present new dimensions of perception including inclined rooms, human size-altering space, serving the head of a visitor on a tray & entering an infinite room.

5) End the day by catching a show at the Vienna State Opera

Century old world-famous opera house. Programs range from premieres, new stagings and productions to Opera and Ballet performances. Compositions by Mozart and Beethoven with performers in traditional costumes are most popular.

1) Start the day at The Hofburg
🕕 9 am - 11:30 am (2.5 hrs)
Winter residence of the royal Hapsburg family. Currently the official residence and workplace of the President of Austria.
Comprises 18 groups of buildings, 19 courtyards, and 2,600 rooms! Main attractions are : The Imperial Apartments, Sisi Museum, Silver Collection and the Imperial chapel.

2) Check out the shopping center of Vienna - Stephansplatz Square
🕕 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm (1 hr)
Graben and Kärntner Straße are the 2 main shopping streets of the city lined with high end retail stores, restaurants, food stalls and a llooott of people! Good pit-stop for lunch.

3) Visit St. Stephen’s Cathedral
🕕 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm (1 hr)
The mother church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vienna and the seat of the Archbishop of Vienna. The cathedral has 4 towers with the south tower being the tallest at a height of 136 m. Visitors are allowed to climb this tower.

4) Head over to Hundertwasser House

Architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser’s ideas of man co-existing with nature comes to life in the form of trees, shrubs & grass growing within human living spaces. Unusual, pleasant and colorful set up of rooms with limited straight lines.

5) Spend the rest of the day at the Prater
🕕 6 pm - 9:30 pm (2-3 hrs)
An enormous park area with Wurstelprater (A large amusement park with adrenaline rushing rides), Schweizerhaus (A traditional inn in the Prater with a huge beer garden and trademark roast pork), Madame Tussauds (80 wax figures and an interactive experience with the cult Empress Sisi), planetarium, a museum, a miniature railway ride and acres of lush greenery.

Summer residence for Prince Eugene of Savoy. Consists of two Baroque palaces (the Upper Belvedere and Lower Belvedere), the Orangery, palace stables and lavish gardens. Houses an impressive collection of Austrian art.

If you have just 1 day in Vienna …
Try to have an early start and get to St. Stephen’s Cathedral first by 8am. Grab breakfast at Stephansplatz Square and head over to Schönbrunn Palace. Checkout the palace and zoo and grab lunch at the restaurant within the Schönbrunn complex. Checkout Belvedere palace next and spend the rest of the day either attending a ballet/musical performance at Vienna State Opera or have an adventure at the Prater!!
